Julie Brenna

Director of Nursing

Julie Guscette Brenna started her Nursing Career as an RN in a Cardiac Unit in Grand Forks, North Dakota.  Eventually, she transitioned into Long Term Care, Assisted Living and Basic Care being a Director of Nursing for 27 years.  When the position came open in Mililani, she was excited to accept the role.

Julie also spent 2 years managing four Veteran Community Clinics in ND.  Missing the rewards of caring for the elderly, she went back to being a Director of Nursing.

Julie is married to her husband, Lee Brenna, who is the Director of Environmental Services at the Plaza in Moanalua.  Together they have 6 children and 16 grandchildren.

Julie has spent most of her life studying Adult Healthcare, Infection Control, Quality Assurance, and Safety for the Elderly.   She is certified as an Infection Preventionist and passed the National Boards to be a Gerontology Nurse.  Julie was recognized as the 2009 Director of Nursing of the Year for North Dakota and was the runner-up for the National Director of Nursing that year as well.

Julie served as the President of the NADONA of North Dakota group from 2008-2012.  She was also elected the President of the ND Board of Nursing in 2016.  Julie has served on four University/College Nursing committees over the years.  She worked hard to make sure the students were getting excellent clinical experiences and prepared for the national boards.

Over the years, Julie worked with the North Dakota Long Term Care Association on committees to bring the best care to the residents of ND.  Julie presented her work/study with her teammate Jeanne on Infection Prevention in Miami after winning a State/National award.   Julie also won an award for “Getting a Start on Improving Your Heart”.  This program focused on the Assisted Living Residents and the volunteer help from the local University athletes.

Julie spent several years training Certified Nursing Assistants and preparing them for their work in the Long Term Care industry.  Julie also worked with the State Boards of Nursing to write national exam questions for Certified Nursing Assistants.

Julie loves sports and staying active.  She likes to swim and enjoys warm weather.   Julie has traveled throughout her life and has been to almost all of the states in the Union.
